“Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” Returning With A New Twist
Disney has announced that it has renewed the popular game show, “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” for a brand new series, which will premiere on Wednesday 10th July 2024 on ABC at 8pm (ET/PT), with new episodes available the following day on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States.
Hosted by late night’s Jimmy Kimmel, “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” is back in primetime to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary. In a first-time twist, the new season will feature pairs of celebrity contestants playing together in the hopes of winning $1 million for the charity of their choice.
The game involves contestants taking on multiple-choice questions, which are based upon general knowledge and for each question they get right, they win a cash prize, and as they move through the questions correctly, the amount offered increases as they take on more difficult questions. However, if a contestant gives an incorrect answer, they will leave with whatever cash prize they had at the previous safe point.
To assist in the quiz, contestants are given a limited number of “lifelines” to help answer questions, such as phoning a friend, 50/50, which means taking away two wrong options and an option to ask the audience for help.
“Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” is executive produced by Michael Davies and Jimmy Kimmel. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Embassy Row and Kimmelot.
The iconic game show is a Sony Pictures Television format that originated in the United Kingdom, which has been adapted in over 120 countries and has won over 65 awards worldwide. Since this show is made under license, it won’t be released on Disney+ internationally.
