Following this weekend’s Oscars, Vin Diesel, who plays Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, took to Instagram to thank some of the companies he’s working with this year, such as Universal Studios, where he’s filming a new instalment in the “Fast And The Furious” franchise.

In his post, he teased that Disney wants to make a Marvel movie about Groot returning home:

Also, Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet.

Vin Diesel has provided the voice of Groot in many Marvel films, including all three of the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” films,  “Thor: Love & Thunder”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, and “Avengers: Endgame”.  He also played the character in the Disney+ Original short series, “I Am Groot”.

We last saw the character in the third “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, where he was a member of a new-look team along with Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla and Blurp.   It’s unknown if Groot will show up in the upcoming “Avengers” movies, “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars”.  Or if a fourth “Guardians Of The Galaxy” film is in development.

Marvel has drastically scaled back its output each year, both for films and movies, plus Marvel hasn’t revealed its plans post-“Secret Wars”, when it wraps up the Multiverse saga.

Roger’s Take:  While I would love to see Groot return to our screens, the character certainly doesn’t justify a full movie, though a Disney+ Special Presentation could be fun, but considering the cost in making it, I would imagine it’s unlikely to happen and Vin is just trying to drum of some interest for his character for more work.  Ultimately, should Vin Diesel return to the role of Groot, at least he knows all of his lines already.  “I Am Groot”.
