“Top Guns: The Next Generation” Coming Soon To Disney+
Following the massive success of “Top Gun: Maverick”, National Geographic was tasked with creating a documentary series about what it’s really like being a “Top Gun”, called “Top Guns: The Next Generation”
In the high-octane competitive world of the U.S. Navy’s toughest fighter pilot school, only the strong succeed. This world exclusive takes the viewer inside the final gruelling six months of training and selection, where the students learn how to fly combat missions. Dreams of earning strike pilot wings collide with the harsh reality of the most rigorous tests yet. We are inside the cockpit as they tackle adrenaline-fueled, dynamic aerial tests, each designed to push the students to their limits and beyond and not all will pass the test.
This new documentary has been produced for National Geographic by Rex, which is part of the Zinc Media Group. The series was created by Karen Edwards, who is also the showrunner. Tanya Shaw, managing director of Zinc Television, will executive produce. For Rex, the series director is Lana Salah. For National Geographic, the commissioning editor is Simon Raikes; Charlie Parsons is senior vice president, Development.
Back when the show was announced, Tom McDonald, EVP of Global Factual and Unscripted Content for National Geographic, explained:
“With so many millions of fans of the film around the world, I was immediately drawn to this series – these elite jet pilots are not only extremely accomplished and impressive, but all have very different stories to tell. With Nat Geo’s exclusive unprecedented inside access, this series promises to be an exhilarating, visually jaw-dropping and fascinating journey into the intensely competitive world of elite flying.”
Disney has announced that “Top Guns: The Next Generation” will be coming to Disney+ this September; however, no exact release date has been confirmed yet. Hopefully, it won’t be too long until we get more details, such as a trailer and a release date for this new original series. As with other National Geographic shows, we should expect it to also be released on Disney+ around the world.
