The next big Star Wars series to arrive on Disney+ this summer is “Andor”, which will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

In this new series, Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan.

“Andor” launches exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday 31st August 2022, with the first two episodes and the series will consist of 12 episodes.

The series creator and showrunner, Tony Gilroy, recently spoke to Empire to promote the upcoming series and confirmed that the second season will also consist of 12 episodes and that it will span the other four years between the first season and when. “Rogue One” begins.

“The scale of the show is so huge.  Directors work in blocks of three episodes, so we did four blocks [in Season 1] of three episodes each.”

That shooting schedule organically led to Season 2’s different structure.

“We looked and said, ‘Wow, it’d be really interesting if we come back, and we use each block to represent a year. We’ll move a year closer with each block’.  From a narrative point of view, it’s really exciting to be able to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then jump a year.”

The second season will be filming in the UK later this year, so it might be a while until the second season arrives on Disney+, but it’s not too long until the first season is released on Disney+ and with a much longer season than “The Mandalorian”, the first season will run through to November 2022.
