Last year, after three successful seasons on Disney+, Lucasfilm announced it would be taking its hit Disney+ series, “The Mandalorian”, and moving it to the big screen for an upcoming movie, “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, which will be released in cinemas on May 22nd 2026.

This upcoming film is being directed and produced by Jon Favreau, with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, also working on the project as producers.

Prior to the announcement of the film, in early 2023, Jon Favreau had revealed that he was already working on the fourth season of “The Mandalorian”:

“Season 4? Yea, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we are going to tell a fully formed story. So, we had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I. And then slowly you just write each episode. So I was writing it during post production because all of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story.”

But now it looks like whatever Jon had been working on for the fourth season has been reformated to a film.   But it looks like we won’t be getting that new season, as according to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the upcoming movie will be a send off to the show. However, the characters may make appearances in other shows or films in the future.

“I have also confirmed the Mandalorian movie will be the final chapter of the show, no season 4. He will be in other projects after that but ‘The Mandalorian’ will be over.”

Roger’s Take:  While I’m sure we will see Mando and Grogu pop up in other films and shows in the future, especially if the new movie does very well at the box office, but I can’t see us getting another season of “The Mandalorian”, as Disney cuts back on how many shows it makes.  Personally, I’d love to see to see more seasons of “The Mandalorian”, since the character is the face of the streaming service.
