“The King’s Man” Sequel Could Be A Film Or A Series
One of the most successful recent franchises from 20th Century Studios is “The Kingsman”, which follows the missions of a fictional secret service organization called “Kingsman”. The series is based on a comic book called “The Secret Service” by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.
Recently, while speaking to the film’s director, Matthew Vaughn, at the New York Comic-Con, it was revealed that “The King’s Man” was originally going to be a TV series, before being adjusted for a theatrical movie release.
“The King’s Man was originally meant to be a TV series and I got persuaded to make it as a film. What we wanted to do was something like ‘The Crown’ but with espionage and a bit of a Kingsman hit going through all of the decades.”
“The King’s Man” is set during the early days of the 20th century, when a powerful group wanted to plunge the world into war. An independent intelligence agency must work relentlessly in the shadows to foil their sinister plans.
Following the success of the “The Kingman” prequel film, “The King’s Man”, a new sequel is in development and, according to Collider, is going to be called “The Traitor King”, which will the story of the rise of Hilter and how he was supported by the English aristocracy, drawing eerie parallels to current events and emphasizing the importance of the story.
During the post-credit scene in “The King’s Man”, a sequel is set up, as Hitler is introduced to the franchise and is played by David Kross. Vaughn has revealed that the film has been written and explained:
“So I was like, ‘well that’s interesting’ and how the world was worrying so much about Communism, that Fascism rose up. And I look at the world at the moment, everyone getting distracted and worrying about this [and that] and if you worry too much about [this] bad things can happen here. So it is a story that I think needs to be recalled. We’re calling it The Traitor King.”
However, some decisions are still being made about whether the new project will be a film or a series. Due to the writer’s strike ending, there is some reshuffling of his schedule, focusing on figuring out what to prioritise next, since he is also working on “Kingsman 3” and a new reboot of the “Kick-Ass” franchise.
While the first two “Kingsman” films were box office hits, “The King’s Man” suffered due to having its release date changed eight times because of the pandemic. Barely pulling in just over its production budget, though hopefully, Disney and 20th Century Fox will give the franchise another go, since the film was in an uphill battle due to the unique situation.
The two previous “Kingsman” films, along with “The King’s Man”, are available to stream now on Disney+ in many countries around the world, including the UK, Australia and Canada.
