One of the most popular unscripted shows on Disney+ and Hulu is “The Kardashians.” This divisive show has audiences either loving or loathing the family. The fifth season of the series was recently released and had the biggest debut for an unscripted show, with 3.8 million views within the first five days.

The series follows the Kardashian-Jenner family, who continue to defy expectations in all their endeavours. Cameras roll as Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie navigate contentious sister dynamics, all under the watchful eye of everyone’s favourite matriarch, Kris.

As you might imagine, with this show being so successful, it’s unsurprising to hear that Disney is going to continue to do business with the Kardashian family. The show’s executive producer, Ben Winston, revealed in an interview with THR that filming is already underway for the sixth season.

I don’t know if we’ve been announced that we’re shooting season six early, but we are. And, if you see them out, you see our cameras. We’d never done a reality show at the company, so when we first took it over, in their move to Disney, I was nervous. I didn’t know about what the experience would be like. But they really are such a delight to work with. I know I sound like I’m saying this because it’s an interview. (Laughs). But they really work hard, so it’s a joy to film.

When asked if the show will continue past season six, he replied:

Long may it continue. There’s always something interesting going on in their lives. I think it’s fair to say that the E! Show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, was a reality show about the existence of this family. What we’ve made, and this might be overblown, is a docuseries about six fascinating businesswomen who are hugely successful and hugely famous and how they cope with what’s actually happening in their life. We’re not searching for storylines, like other reality shows might have to. There are already so many interesting things going on — both in their lives and on their schedules. That’s what a reality show should be. We don’t need to create storylines that an audience knows are not true.

The first four seasons, along with the first half of the fifth season of “The Kardashians”, are out now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.  A new episode of the series is being released every Thursday.

Roger’s Take:  With the ratings success for “The Kardashians”, it’s a no-brainer for Disney to continue this relationship and with Disney trying to reach a broader audience, having more reality series is something I suspect we will see more of.  Disney+ needs variety, and “The Kardashians” offers something very different from other shows.  Some people might not like them, but there is a huge audience who does enjoy their antics.
