Disney has announced that the upcoming seventh season of “The Good Doctor” will be the last season.

The series tells the story of Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, has worked tirelessly to prove to his colleagues that his extraordinary medical gifts will save lives. Meanwhile, Dr. Murphy and the rest of the team must also navigate the complexities of their own changing relationships as they continue to deal with life and death situations.

This show is currently the second longest-running scripted drama on ABC, but it will be joining other shows coming to an end this year, including “Station 19”.

The series stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo, Noah Galvin as Dr. Asher Wolke and Bria Samone Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen.

Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, said in a statement:

Due to last year’s actor and writer strikes, this upcoming season will have fewer episodes, but at least they will be able to close out the series properly.

With Disney cutting back how many general entertainment shows it creates for its channels and streaming services, it’s not a huge surprise to see the show coming to an end. Especially since this series was created by Sony TV and isn’t a franchise that Disney owns. Also, as shows go into later seasons, they generally get more expensive to create due to contracts that result in costs increasing.

The farewell season will air on ABC on February 20th 2024, and will be available to stream the next day on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.  The previous six seasons are available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the United States.

Since this series is distributed internationally by Sony, not every previous season is available to stream on Disney+ internationally, but in many countries, including the UK, the first few seasons of the show are available to stream now.
