Today, Disney has released the 20th Century Studios film “The Creator” on digital platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango/Vudu to purchase. The film will also be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 12th 2023.

The film is set 15 years after a nuclear detonation in Los Angeles and a war against artificial intelligence. Joshua (John David Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Gemma Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war — and humankind. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory, only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child, in this epic sci-fi action thriller directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a screenplay by Edwards and Chris Weitz.

The digital version comes with an exclusive behind-the-scenes bonus documentary called “True Love: Making The Creator”, where we see director Gareth Edwards and crew talk for nearly an hour and look behind the scenes. We get to hear from actors about the filming experience, and learn about the production’s documentary-style approach, the innovative camera and lighting work, and much more.

The 4K release includes Dolby Atmos audio, which showcases the heartfelt and moving motion picture score by acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer.

“The Creator” was released in cinemas in September and has pulled in over $100 million globally at the box office, with a reported budget of $80 million.

As with most releases, no streaming release date for Disney+ has been announced yet since Disney will want to encourage people to buy the film on digital platforms first to make more money. Most previous releases have seen a streaming release around the time of a physical release, which could indicate a December release, though again, nothing has been announced yet.
