Taika Waititi Reveals Plan For Next “Thor” Film
Next month, Titan is releasing a new book, “Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special”, which is a deluxe guide to the film and includes interviews, production art and photos that take readers behind the scenes of the most epic Thor adventure to date!
“Thor: Love and Thunder ” was released last summer and is available to stream now on Disney+. In the movie, the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) is on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – one of self-discovery. But his efforts are interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
The book includes some comments by the film’s director, Taika Waititi, who speaks about Thor’s MCU future and what could come next.
“What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome. I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable”
Marvel hasn’t announced when Thor might next be seen in the MCU, though it’s likely to be in one of the upcoming Avengers films, “Kang Dynasty” or “Secret Wars”. And a fifth “Thor” film hasn’t yet been added to the release schedule, nor has it been confirmed if Taika will be returning to direct.
While both “Ragnarok” and “Love & Thunder” have been criticised for their comedic style, both movies have been box office successes. But with Marvel slowing down its release schedule to reduce superhero fatigue and budget cuts, it doesn’t necessarily mean a fifth Thor movie will automatically happen. However, it’s interesting to hear that Taika has some ideas in mind, should the film go ahead. In the meantime, Taika still has to work on several other films, including a new Star Wars and Flash Gordon film.
There are plenty more villains within the MCU that could be explored in the future. However, even Chris Hemsworth has said that the last film got a little bit too silly, so if Taika does come back, they might need to tone down the silliness, which will no doubt please many fans who thought “Love & Thunder” took it too far.
