“Super Scam Me” Coming Soon To Disney+ & Hulu

Disney has announced details and a trailer for the upcoming documentary special from National Geographic called “Super Scam Me”, which features Emmy Award-winning journalist Mariana van Zeller, and it will be coming to Disney+, Hulu and the National Geographic channel in October.

In this new special, Mariana van Zeller is getting a new nose. And new hair. And a full makeover. Not for a magazine spread, but because she’s about to go undercover for the strangest assignment of her career. She’s trying to intentionally get romance-scammed.

In 2025 alone, romance scammers stole more than a billion dollars from American victims, and Mariana wants to know exactly how they do it.   Armed with a new identity and a freshly built dating profile, she becomes the bait, setting off on a journey at times absurd and yet deeply human, in which she starts dating a four-star general deployed to Syria, gets wooed by “George Clooney,” and teams up with a hacker who helps her locate several scammers, including her own.

Along the way, she exposes the tactics, the technology, and the psychology that have made these scams not just common, but nearly inescapable.

“I’ve spent years reporting on scams, and the reaction I hear most is ‘How could anyone be so stupid? That would never happen to me.’ But it can, and it does happen to anyone,” said van Zeller. “So this time, I made myself the target.”

In an innovative collaboration between National Geographic and Muck Media, Mariana’s podcast, “The Hidden Third,” will feature special episodes dedicated to “Super Scam Me”, airing the week of October 12th 2026. The episodes will include exclusive interviews with the white-hat cyber hacker and victim featured in the special.

As the host and executive producer of National Geographic’s Emmy-winning series “Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller,” Mariana has spent years investigating the world’s most dangerous underground economies, earning a record-setting 88 Emmy nominations and 16 wins.

“Super Scam Me” is produced by Muck Media for National Geographic and executive produced by Jeff Plunkett and Mariana van Zeller. Plunkett also directs. Bengt Anderson serves as executive producer for National Geographic.

This one-hour special airs October 17th 2026, at 9:00 p.m. EDT on National Geographic and streams on Disney+ and Hulu.
