Star Wars: Visions – Volume 3 Coming Soon To Disney+
Disney has announced at its 2024 APAC Content Showcase, that it’s popular animated series, “Star Wars: Visions” will be returning for a third volume in 2025.
“Star Wars: Visions” debuted on Disney+ in 2021, with nine shorts by seven different Japanese anime studios celebrating the mythology of Star Wars through unique cultural perspectives.
A second volume was released on Disney+ last year and featured animation from across Japan, India, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Chile, France, South Africa, South Korea, and the United States.
For the third volume, the show will be returning to its Japanese anime roots, with nine new shorts from nine different anime studios, including returning contributors Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER.
The next instalment will also introduce five new anime studios to the world of Star Wars — ANIMA (in co-production with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio — to further demonstrate the diversity and creativity of Japanese animation.
Seasons one and two of “Star Wars: Visions” are available to stream on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: I think returning to anime is a good thing for “Visions”, as while the global approach for the second season did produce some great shorts, I think “Visions” works better as an anime project. “Visions” has been one of the standout projects for Disney+ from Lucasfilm, as the format allows much more creativity and freedom to tell different stories within the Star Wars universe.
