“Star Wars: The Mandalorian” Producer Gives Season 4 Update
Earlier this year, Lucasfilm released the third season of “Star Wars: The Mandalorian” on Disney+, which continued the journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.
Earlier this year, the show’s executive producer, Jon Favreau, revealed that he had already written the fourth season of “The Mandalorian”, but it might be a while until we see it arrive on our screens. And at the Star Wars Celebration event, it was revealed that Dave Filoni is also making a new film that will focus on the New Republic, and close out the interconnected stories told in “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett”, “Ahsoka”, and other Disney+ series.
Recently, “The Mandalorian” producer/director Rick Famuyiwa appeared on the Crew Call with Anthony D’Alessandro podcast and shared an update on the fourth season of “The Mandalorian”.
“I mean, we’ll see. Again, we’ll see. I don’t have any insight on the schedule, but it’s such an undertaking to put these seasons together and I think, because of the way we shoot it, and how the StageCraft plays into it, a lot of stuff has to be thought through, built, conceived in prep, and you don’t necessarily have the luxury to start shooting, and say, ‘Okay, we’ll figure this out later.'”
He added, that production on “The Mandalorian” takes time:
“So, that work takes time, that work has to get done, and obviously, all the series that have been happening, and just trying to figure out even just production space, and how everything slots in, there becomes sort of a jigsaw puzzle of how to figure it out, so… But I know, Jon [Favreau] has written the scripts, I know that he’s excited about continuing to tell stories in the world, so when and how that happens, obviously considering everything, we’ll see. “
Unfortunately, while we know that the fourth season of “The Mandalorian” is happening, Rick doesn’t know when:
“But yeah, I’ve felt like this season was a nice culmination, but I’m excited about Season 4, and it’s certainly coming. Just don’t know exactly when.”
Originally, the fourth season of “The Mandalorian” was due to start filming later this year, but with the writer’s strike and maybe a potential actors’ strike, things look to have been delayed into 2024, which means we wouldn’t see a new season of “The Mandalorian” until at least 2025, since it takes over a year to film and do post-production such as special effects.
The first three seasons of “The Mandalorian” are available to stream now on Disney+.
