During the panel to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of “Return Of The Jedi”, it was revealed by Ming-Na Wen, who was moderating a panel which included Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis and Billy Dee Williams, that the classic Star Wars film would be getting a limited theatrical re-release to select theatres in the US, UK,  and other regions for a limited time.

“Return Of The Jedi”  is the epic conclusion of the original trilogy, where the Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor.

A new poster was also revealed for the theatrical re-release, which artist Matt Ferguson designed and all of those in attendance were able to get their hands on a copy of the poster!   Matt Ferguson shared some thoughts on the new poster:

“I’m so happy and grateful to get to work on these movies again, even more so to be given the freedom to continue what I started with Empire. For that poster, a cold mechanical vibe completely takes over the whole composition. But Return of the Jedi is very much the triumph of Luke and the Rebels, so I wanted to have more of the warmer colors coming back into the art, hence pivoting to green with red accents.”

For this new poster, Matt decided to focus his composition on two of the saga’s most resonant and consequential figures – Luke and Vader.

“The artwork should tell a story, so for me it only made sense to give over the composition to those two characters.  Will Luke be turned? Is Vader going to overcome the darkness? It’s all about the pull between good and evil.”

Check out the new poster below:

The film will be available in select theatres in the United States from April 28th through to Star Wars Day on May 4th.  While in the UK, the film will only be available in cinemas from April 28th through to May 1st.  Other countries’ re-release information hasn’t yet been announced.
