With the writer’s strike now underway in Hollywood, there is now a large cloud over the production of many shows and films, as while filming can continue with completed scripts, there are no longer any writers on set to make any adjustments on the fly.

While Disney has a number of major shows like “Ahsoka” and “Secret Invasion” in the can, ready to be released, there are many Disney+ projects currently still in the middle of filming.   Many of these aren’t being made in the US, such as the second season of “Andor” and the upcoming Star Wars show, “The Acolyte”.   If a show is being created outside of the US, with writers who aren’t WGA members, production isn’t likely to be impacted.  But if they have writers who are members of the Writers Guild Of America, who are on strike, this still impacts the production.

Recently, Deadline revealed that filming on both “The Acolyte” and the second season of “Andor” will continue in the UK.  “The Acolyte” is expected to wrap filming this month, and “Andor” will be filming until the end of August.

During a recent For Your Consideration (FYC) Emmy event for “Andor”, it was revealed by the showrunner Tony Gilroy that the scripts for the second season were finished before the WGA strike started.

Two days ago not because of the strike, but because our thing rhymed with the strike, I finished the last script of the twenty-four. We started three and a half years ago. It’ll be five years by the time we’re done to finish.

With Disney trying to slow down the amount of Star Wars and Marvel shows being created, the timing of this strike might not impact as much, had this happened this time last year, when production was trying to catch up from the pandemic.

Another series currently being filmed in Cardiff, is the new season of “Doctor Who”, which is being created by Bad Wolf and BBC Studio, but is being co-financed by Disney, but since British writers are writing the show, it’s not expected to be impacted by the strike.

It has also been revealed that the writer’s strike has impacted the development of the third season of “Abbott Elementary”, which will now likely be delayed depending on how long the strike goes on for.
