Star Original “How To Be A Carioca” To Premiere At Iberseries Event
Disney’s upcoming Brazilian comedy series, “How To Be A Carioca”, is going to make its premiere at the upcoming Iberseries & Platino Industria event, which takes place in Madrid between the 3rd and 6th of October 2023.
The new series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Priscilla Ann Goslin. The Portuguese-language comedy series follows an American writer who has to learn the quirks of Rio de Janeiro’s people after moving to the Brazilian city. It is a fun survival manual in the Wonderful City. Filmed in the city of Rio de Janeiro, it shows with humour the way of being from Rio and addresses the cultural differences between characters of different nationalities and their particular experiences in this city.
In each episode, a foreigner will live an adventure in an attempt to adapt to the local idiosyncrasy and have the help of Francisco, a “pure-bred Carioca”, played by Seu Jorge. Also starring in the series is Malu Mader, Douglas Silva, Raquel Villar, Débora Nascimento, Nego Ney, Mart’nália, Danilo Ferreira, the Argentine actresses Verónica Llinás and Andrea Frigerio, the actor German Peter Ketnath, the Syrian actor Ahmad Kontar, the Israeli actress Swell Ariel and the Angolan actors Heloísa Jorge and Lelis Twevekamba, among others.
“How to be a Carioca” was created by Carlos Saldanha, Joana Mariani and Diogo Dhal, with a script by Rodrigo Nogueira, Sabrina Rosa and Felipe Scholl and produced by Moovie. Carlos Saldanha has previously directed the Blue Sky Studios films, “Ice Age”, “Rio”, and “Ferdinand”.
The first episode of the show will be shown during the event and there will also be a panel that will feature the show’s creators, Carlos Saldanha and Joana Mariani, alongside Leonardo Aranguibel, VP of Production, Head of Production Operations and Strategy, The Walt Dinsey Company Latin America.
“How To Be A Carioca” will be released soon on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ in select markets, including Spain.
