Back at the D23 Expo in August of 2019, Marvel Studios announced it was creating a brand new live-action series for Disney+, “She-Hulk”.  Three years later, the first episode of “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law”, starring Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases, was released on Disney+.

The series follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.

Up until earlier this year, the show was simply called “She-Hulk”, but the show went through a small rebrand, adding “Attorney At Law”.

In an interview with Lifehacker Australia,  the show’s head writer, Jessica Gao revealed why the Disney+ series was retitled:

“We always had the line in the show where Bruce says ‘She-Hulk attorney at law, it’s got a nice ring to it’. And one day we were watching cuts and when it got to that scene Kevin just said, ‘That’s a great title for a show, that should be the title of the show’. And that’s it… You know when the golden tongue of Kevin Feige speaks, then it becomes canon and that’s really how it happened.”

Unlike other Disney+ shows, which just have the character’s names like “Ms Marvel”, “Hawkeye” or “Loki, “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” does feel different.   It’s interesting to see how the name of the show was changed, simply from a screening, but the new name does give some more clarity about what the show is about.  Rather than just a female version of “The Hulk”, people instantly know there is an element of a law theme, which might change expectations from fans.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” consists of 9 episodes, which have been directed by Kat Coiro (Episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9) and Anu Valia (Episodes 5, 6, 7) with Jessica Gao as head writer.

The new series includes many well-known actors, including Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong. The cast also includes Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kat Coiro and Jessica Gao. Co-executive producers are Wendy Jacobson and Jennifer Booth.

The first episode of “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” is available to stream now on Disney and new episodes will be released weekly every Thursday for 2 months!

Do you think the original name is better?
