With the actor’s and writer’s strikes heading into the Fall, many projects have been put on hold until the studios and unions can come to an agreement on improvements on pay and conditions.

The director of “Free Guy”, Shawn Levy, is working on many different projects for Disney at the moment, including a new Star Wars film, a “Real Steel” series for Disney+ and was filming “Deadpool 3” when the actor’s strike started in July.

During a recent interview with Collider at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote his new Netflix series, “All The Light We Cannot See”, director, Shawn Levy, confirmed that he is working on his upcoming Star Wars movie.

“We were just starting the process of developing my movie, and the writer strike happened.  So we are in that holding pattern that so much of our industry is in.”

Early last year, it was revealed that Shawn was working with Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, Susan Montford and Don Murphy on a new “Real Steel” series, based on the film that was set in the not-so-distant future, where boxing has gone high-tech – 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots have taken over the ring.

When asked about the development of his new “Real Steel” Disney+ series, Levy confirmed that it is almost identical that the project is still alive and that he is desperate to make the project happen.

“Same, I could literally say, “See above.” Same. Still, as I told you, I want it as badly as the lovers of Real Steel want it, so alive, but paused.”

Very little is known about Shawn’s Star Wars project at the moment, and it’s been a long time since we’ve had an update on the “Real Steel” Disney+ series.  With the ongoing strikes, it’s unlikely we will hear much about either of these projects for a while, especially as once the actor’s strike ends, Shawn Levy will have to return first to finish off filming on “Deadpool 3”.
