“Shark Quest: Hunt For The Apex Predator” Coming Soon To Nat Geo, Hulu & Disney+
Disney has announced details on a brand-new documentary series from National Geographic, called “Shark Quest: Hunt for the Apex Predator,” which will be available on the National Geographic channel, as well as Hulu and Disney+, this summer during SharkFest.
As shark populations are declining, finding ways to share the seas is more critical than ever. In a series of jaw-dropping stories, survivors recount their harrowing encounters with massive sharks … where some emerged miraculously unscathed and others were less fortunate. By studying the key hot spots that make up the most shark-infested waters in the world, we can learn what attracts these massive predators to frequent these areas. Video evidence can show us how these incredible hunters lean on their highly evolved skills and reveal how we can minimise our risks when entering their domain. Sharks have adapted over 400 million years to become the perfect sea predators, and our survival on land is interlinked with theirs in the sea.
The series will consist of two episodes:
- “Close Calls” – A tourist’s dream shark-cage dive turns into a tooth-thrashing nightmare, while kayakers learn the hard way how territorial sharks can be as you fish in their domain. A scuba diver’s life hangs in the balance as a tiger shark clamps onto his oxygen tank, while an incredibly lucky man survives being trapped in a cage with a thrashing great white. These intense close calls allow us to uncover why these sharks are such incredible predators. Leading shark experts all over the world explore the power of the shark’s bite and why their iconic teeth are not just razor sharp but also can last for millions of years
- “Hot Spots” – Finding a safe way for humans and sharks to coexist has been a battle for thousands of years. There are three key areas that make up the most dangerous shark-infested waters in the world. Starting from Australia’s endless coastlines and diverse climates, we’ll travel to South Africa, where the rich marine life attracts more than 98 species of sharks. Finally, we’ll arrive in
America’s own hot spot of Florida, where nearly a quarter of the world’s unprovoked shark attacks occur. We’ll learn about the big sharks that frequent these areas, from the iconic great white to the tenacious bull shark that goes after hippos 10 times their size. With incredible first-hand testimony from shark attack survivors, we uncover ways to minimize our risks so we can stay safe in the waters around these hot spots
This new series will premiere on July 13th 2025, at 9/8c on National Geographic, and it will be available to stream on July 6th 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu. No international Disney+ release details have been announced yet.
