Sony has a number of Marvel Spider-Man spin-off movies set for release including Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, now Variety is reporting that Sony has signed S.J. Clarkson up to direct an upcoming “female-centric” movie.

The project is still in its early stages of development, as it doesn’t yet have a writer on board to write the screenplay and no actors are connected to the project.

It’s not been announced what character the movie will focus on, though there is a strong possibility that the film will be based on Madame Web.   Though other strong female characters within the Spider-Man universe include Spider-Woman, Spider-Ghost (Gwen), Silk, Black Cat and Silver Sable.

Madame Web possessed psychic abilities including telepathy, clairvoyance, and prescience. She can also perform astral projection and appear to others in spirit form.   In the comic books, the character has been part of many multi-dimensional stories that have connected her to other Marvel characters such as Doctor Strange, and seen her interact with multiple Spider characters including Miles Morales.

S.J. Clarkson has directed many TV shows including episodes of “Banshee,” “Bates Motel” and “Succession.” She has also directed multiple episodes on Netflix’s Marvel TV show “Jessica Jones.”

Are you looking forward to a Madame Web movie?
