A brand new documentary called “Releyendo Mafalda”, aka “Reading Again Mafalda” is going to be getting its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival between 14th and the 19th April 2023, along with the new Disney+ series, “A Small Light”. The Argentine series will consist of four half-hour episodes and includes French & English subtitles.

In this documentary, we will get a different look at Mafalda, which includes a diving deep into her story to reveal how a comic strip from the 60’s could get so relevant culturally and how and why impacted everyone’s lives around the world. This series has access to never seen before materials and exclusive interviews; this docuseries will take a new fresh look into this classic created by Quino.

An iconic figure of the history of comics, whose characteristic features are part of the collective imagination, Mafalda’s real story is actually little-known. Through exclusive archives, the series recounts the story of the character, from its origins in publicity, to nowadays, thanks to testimonies of illustrators following Quino’s footsteps. Under its lightness, the series reports on the creative process, with the history of contemporary Argentina as a subtext.

This documentary has been written by Julián Trokberg and it has been directed by Lorena Muñoz.

The series is going to be released on Disney+, though no release date has yet been announced.
