Ravensburger Reveals Plans For The Next Chapter Of “Disney Lorcana”
This past Tuesday, Ravensburger revealed new details on its plans for the second chapter of its popular trading card game (TCG) called “Disney Lorcana”.
The game is set in the wondrous realm of Lorcana. Players will take on the role of Illumineers and wield magic ink to summon a team of Disney characters known as glimmers, who appear in both familiar and fantastical ways. The game was designed to be easy to learn for TCG newcomers while still offering strategic depth for experienced players.
Disney Lorcana features hundreds of original pieces of Disney art that collectors will adore, which are inspired by the many films and shows that are available to stream on Disney+, such as “Aladdin”, “Tangled”, “Lady & The Tramp” and countless more.
There have already been seven sets released over the last two years, and Ravensburger has revealed that the eighth set to be released in May is called “Reign Of Jafar”. This new set will feature artwork from many films available on Disney+, including:
- Encanto
- Lilo & Stitch
- Bambi
- The Princess and The Frog
- Mulan
- Pinocchio
- Wreck-It Ralph
- Big Hero Six
- The Rescuers
- Beauty And The Beast
Ravensburger also revealed some plans for the future of the game, by confirming more Disney franchises will be coming soon, including “Gargoyles”, “Black Cauldron”, and “Darkwing Duck”. A new set called “Fabled” will be released on September 5th 2025, which will feature a unique art style of classic Disney characters. A new Collectors Starter Set featuring a special folder and booster packs, plus a unique promo card featuring Tinkerbell from the iconic animated movie, “Peter Pan”.
The game continues to evolve with additional announcements of two new rarities of rarer cards called, Iconic and Epic. Iconic cards are extremely rare with only two appearing in each set, while Epic cards will appear more often than Enchanted cards and feature special artwork and foil treatments. These cards will feature unique art that collectors will want to chase.
Elaine Chase, Chief Marketing Officer for TCGs at Ravensburger, said in a statement regarding the new sets:
“It is an honor to usher Disney Lorcana TCG into this exciting next chapter. I’m excited to bring my three decades of experience working on trading card games to Disney Lorcana TCG, and I’ve learned how to move from a super-hot launch to supporting a trading card game for the long haul. I can’t wait for fans to see everything we are planning!”
There was also confirmation of a new set in December called “Whispers In The Well”, which will feature unique artwork of popular characters from Disney films like “The Little Mermaid”.
“Reign Of Jafar” will be released at special pre-release events in game stores and at Disney store locations on May 30th 2025 while packs will be available everywhere from June 6th.
There will be plenty of different ways to get involved in the game, including single-player starter sets and a brand new special game set called “Illumineers’ Quest: Palace Heist.” This is a new co-op experience-in-a-box that pits up to four players against Jafar and his minions.
