Continuing on with the trend of Disney making live-action versions of its classic animated films, following the success of theatrical releases like “Cinderella”, “Aladdin” and “The Lion King”, in addition to Disney+ versions, “Lady & The Tramp” and “Pinocchio”.

The next animated classic film to get a live-action/hybrid version is “The Aristocats”, and according to Deadline, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is going to be directing this film. “Questlove” won an Oscar last year for the Searchlight Pictures film, “Summer Of Soul”. He will also be an executive producer on the film and oversee the music for the project.

The new film is also going to be executive produced by Tarik Trotter, Shawn Gee and Zarah Zohlman from Two One Five Entertainment. Will Gluck is producing the film and writing the script with Keith Bunin. Olive Bridge is also producing the film.

The original “Aristocats” film was released in 1970 and is set in the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Laughs and adventure ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper in hopes of gaining the inheritance. Now it’s up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day. This film is also available to stream now on Disney+.

It’s unknown if this new live-action version will be released in cinemas or released directly onto Disney+.
