Following on from the huge success of the first “Avatar” movie in 2009, it’s hardly surprising that work quickly began on a sequel. However, James Cameron wasn’t content with just one, so he started putting together plans to turn the film into an epic saga, with multiple sequels.

Back in late 2022, 20th Century Studios released “Avatar: The Way Of Water”, which went onto become the biggest box office hit of the year, and Disney currently has the next sequel scheduled to be released in December in 2025, plus it has a fourth movie arriving in 2029 and a fifth movie dropping in 2031.

During the filming of “Avatar: The Way Of Water”, as part of James Cameron’s pre-planning, he also filmed the third movie and some of the fourth in order to capture as much footage as possible while the child actors were still young.  Post-production is currently underway on “Avatar 3”, and filming has recently resumed on the fourth movie.

This past week, Joel David Moore, who plays Norm Spellman in the franchise, took to social media to confirm the team at back in Wellington, New Zealand.

Heading back to Wellington NZ is always so nostalgic. Been coming here for 17 years making this franchise, seeing familiar faces, friends, putting the hard work in, it’s like a home away from home at this point. The family has grown, but the work flow and mission is always the same. Thankful for my #Avatar fam and can’t wait for you to see what’s next! (Last pic is a flashback of me Sig Sam M Rod and our amazing kiwi crew from 17 yrs ago)

While we wait for the next instalment in the “Avatar” franchise, you can find both “Avatar” and “Avatar: The Way Of Water” on Disney+ now.

Are you looking forward to watching the “Avatar” sequels?  Let me know on social media!
