Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, has announced at its annual shareholder meeting that Pixar Studios is in early development of a sequel to the hit movie, “Coco”.

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure. And we can’t wait to share more soon.”

No other details on this new movie have been announced, such as what the plot will be.  Disney has also confirmed that the new film will arrive in cinemas and Disney+ in 2029.

“Coco 2” reunites the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich (Coco, Toy Story 3) and co-director Adrian Molina (Coco). Oscar-winning producer Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) will produce.

In Disney•Pixar’s vibrant tale of family, fun and adventure, an aspiring young musician named Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) embarks on an extraordinary journey to the magical land of his ancestors. There, the charming trickster Héctor (Gael García Bernal) becomes an unexpected friend who helps Miguel uncover the mysteries behind his family’s stories and traditions.

The movie was released in cinemas in 2017 and it went on to pull in $814.3 million at the box office, plus it is regularly one of the most popular films. on Disney+. The first film starred Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, and Benjamin Bratt.

Roger’s Take:  “Coco” has been one of my favourite movies from Pixar in the last decade and I personally can’t wait to see a sequel to it.  Plus, during the same annual shareholders’ meeting, Disney confirmed that a new attraction is currently being developed for its theme parks.
