“Perfect Crown” Becomes Most Successful Korean Original On Disney+ & Hulu
As Disney+ continues to grow its international originals lineup, its K-drama shows from Korea continue to be one of the most popular shows on Disney+, as it’s been revealed that the latest original show, “Perfect Crown” is a massive global streaming hit.
“Perfect Crown” follows the people’s favourite royal, Grand Prince I-AN, as he becomes embroiled in a power struggle with other members of the royal family. With pressure on the prince to wed, he strikes up a marriage of convenience with Huiju, the heir to a Korean conglomerate, but as the pair work together to advance their own ends, emotions begin to flare and things don’t go quite as smoothly as planned.
The new K-drama has pulled in 43 million views globally to date across Disney+ and Hulu worldwide, with the show also being able to increase its viewership week by week. It was able to increase its views 43% in seven days for episode 8, compared to the premiere.
“Perfect Crown” is now the top Korean title of all time globally on Disney+ and Hulu, according to Disney+, and is the “most globally travelled Korean premiere on Disney+ to date” based on 28 days of views. It’s the number one show in the United States and Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
The series stars IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines) as Huiju, the second in line to inherit one of Korea’s biggest conglomerates, and Byeon Wooseok (Lovely Runner) as Grand Prince I-AN. The show is directed by Park Joonhwa (Alchemy of Souls) and written by Yoo Jiwon.
