New Japanese Original Series “Tanabata No Kuni” Announced
Disney has announced details on a brand new original Japanese series called “Tanabata no Kuni”, which is a live-action adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s science fiction manga, which appeared in `Weekly Big Comic Spirits” from 1996 to 1999. Hitoshi has previously worked on the hit Disney+ series, “Gannibal”.
This new series will star Kaota Hosoda, who has previously starred in “Dragon Zakura” and “What Should I Do With Ieyasu?”. Hosoda will play the role of Yoji Minamimaru, who is an ordinary college student who is loved and called Nanmaru by those around him but is somehow lacking. He has only one mysterious but useless superpower: making small holes in everything. However, with this ability, he will be able to face the crisis that will plunge the world…
Also starring in the new original series will be Takayuki Yamada as Yoriyuki Marukami and Ryoko Fujino as Sachiko Hagshimaru.
The series is going to be directed by Takahide Sano, Hayato Kawai, and Yūsuke Taki. The upcoming show is being written by Yūsuke Taki, Akiko Miyoshi, and Mari Asato.
The new series will debut on Disney+ in Japan on July 4th 2024. It’s not yet been announced if the series will also be released globally as a Star Original, but most original programs do tend to get international releases.
Disney has been committed to making new original programs in many countries around the world and “Tanabata no Kuni” will be the latest Japanese original to arrive on the platform.
