Disney has announced details on the brand-new anime series “The Fable”, which is the latest adaptation of a popular Manga comic, which was originally written by Katsuhisa Minami and has been featured in the weekly “Young Magazine” since 2014.

“The Fable” is about a man who has been trained as a killer since childhood, and who vividly annihilates any enemy within 6 seconds. The story is about an invincible killing genius, commonly known as “Fable,” who one day receives a sudden order from the boss of his organization to “not kill anyone for a year,” and ends up living a completely new life.

This is the latest release from Disney’s partnership with Kodansha, which is behind many of the biggest names in Manga, including “AKIRA”, “Attack On Titan” and “Ghost In The Shell”.

The anime version of “The Fable” features Kazuyuki Okitsu playing the role of Akira Sato, the main character “Fable” who has been educated as a killer since childhood, Miyuki Sawashiro plays Yoko Sato, Akira’s partner and “younger sister”, and Misaki Shimizu, the heroine who the Sato brothers and sisters protect. Kana Hanazawa, Akio Otsuka as Tsuyoshi Ebihara, the young head of the Shinkoku-gumi, Kenjiro Tsuda as Kenji Kojima, Ebihara’s younger brother, Tetsuo Komura as the leader and boss of darkness, and Jun Fukushima as the popular comedian Jackal Tomioka.

In addition, Yasushi Ishii will play the role of Hiroshi Hamada, the head of the Shinkuro-gumi, Ryota Iwasaki will play the role of Ryo Kuroshio, Ebihara’s apprentice and Yudai Mino will play the role of Katsuya Takahashi, another apprentice of Ebihara, and Sunagawa, the third most powerful member of the Shinkuro-gumi executives.

Also starring in the series will be Kojiro Takahashi, who will play the role of Souichi, Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi will play the role of Matsu, a handyman who works for the underworld, Takeharu Onishi is playing the role of Kenjiro Tagada, who is the president of the design company Octopus, and Takumi Asahina will play the role of Etsushi Kainuma, a designer who works at Octopus, and Yoko’s master.

It has also been announced that Kazuya Ichijo will play the role of the master of the battlefield “Bar Buffalo”, and Yuki Kaji will play the role of Yuki Kawai, a regular at Buffalo, commonly known as “Bae Daiyocha”.

This new series is being animated by Tezuka Productions and will be directed by Ryōsuke Takahashi.  “The Fable” has been adapted by Yuya Takashima, who has previously worked on “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury”, and Mayumi Morita, who has previously worked on “Goddess Café Terrace”.

The series will debut on the Japanese linear television channel Nippon Television from 00:55  on Sunday, 7th April 2024, before every episode is released globally as a Star Original on Disney+ on the same day.  As with most Star Originals, expect to also see this released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States.  

This is the latest anime series to be released globally by Disney, following the success of “Bleach: A Thousand Year War”, “Undead Unluck” and “Tokyo Revengers”.
