This week, Disney has launched four FAST channels (Free Ad Supported Television) on the MyFree DirecTV platform, which provides viewers with direct access to curated FAST Channel content and an extensive On-Demand library.  The service is accessible nationwide online, via mobile, and on select smart TVs and streaming devices.

The four new Disney-owned channels include ABC 20/20, AB Local Ish, ABC News Live, and ESPN 8 “The Ocho,” which brings a broader range of news, entertainment, and sports content to MyFree DirecTV users.

ABC News Live offers rolling news from the reporters and correspondents of ABC News, as well as repeats of “World News Tonight,” “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “Nightline.”   This live channel is also available to stream on many other platforms, including Disney+ and Hulu.

The 20/20 channel has a rotating lineup of episodes of the popular news magazine program.  While ABC Localish offers lifestyle programming produced by ABC and several of its owned-and-operated TV stations around the country, while ESPN 8 The Ocho offers replays of unusual and odd sport competitions, including air guitar, trampoline-dodgeball and robot fighting.

Disney has been slowly changing its stragegy to how it offers FAST channels, closing down its own ABC app and making some of those channels available on as many platforms as possible to maximise viewership and advertising revenue.

Hopefully, Disney will expand the availability of these FAST channels on Disney+ in the future. Last year, they added four new “Stream” channels for premium subscribers following the launch of Disney Jr. and ABC News Live Streams channels.
