Disney has announced that “Mufasa: The Lion King”, which is the sequel to the smash-hit live-action adaptation of “The Lion King”, will soon be coming to home video.

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, “Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone, until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

The film will be released on digital retailers, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, on February 18th and on physical media formats, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD, on April 1st 2025.

No Disney+ release date has been announced yet, but typically, the streaming release is more in line with the physical release to increase digital sales and physical media pre-orders.  So I wouldn’t expect to see “Mufasa: The Lion King” to arrive on Disney+ until April, but sometimes Disney likes to surprise us.

Fans of the movie can explore hours of exclusive bonus content for the whole family on the digital and Blu-ray release featuring a full-length Sing-Along version of the film, deleted scenes, featurettes and much more. The 4K UHD will be available in a collectable limited edition SteelBook with custom artwork and packaging.
