“Ms Marvel” debuted on Disney+ last year and introduced Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero megafan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?

Later this year, Ms Marvel moves to the big screen when “The Marvels” arrives in cinemas in November, which sees her team up with Captain Marvel and S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau, to stop a tyrannical Kree from taking revenge.

While many fans enjoyed the “Ms Marvel” series, unfortunately, it was one of the least watched Marvel shows on Disney+, which has cast doubt over future seasons of the show.  While there had been rumours that a second season of “Ms Marvel” had been planned to be filmed after “The Marvels” wrapped, due to the age of the star Iman Vellani. Though, as with the upcoming “Marvels” film, the character could still pop up in other team-up shows/films.

Over the weekend, during the Women of Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Sana Amanat, who is one of the producers on “Ms Marvel”, spoke about a potential second season.

”It’s great to see more demand. You know, complain. I’m happy to have you guys complain to [Marvel Studios President] Kevin [Feige], let’s get a Season 2.”

Disney plans to reduce the number of Disney+ series and movies it creates to save money, increase quality and slow down the superhero franchise fatigue.  Disney may likely be holding off to see how the public reacts to Ms Marvel appearing on the big screen.  And with the ongoing writer’s and actor’s strike, we probably won’t know for a while.

To help promote the upcoming film, the “Ms Marvel” series will also be broadcast on ABC, with the first three episodes airing on Saturday, 5th August 2023 and the final three episodes on Saturday, 12th August 2023, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. EDT/PDT.

The first season of “Ms Marvel” is available to stream now on Disney+.
