One of the biggest new original shows to arrive on Disney+ in 2022 was “Ms Marvel”, which introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City.  An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a superhero megafan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?

The finale of “Ms Marvel” instantly set up the upcoming movie, “The Marvels”, which is due to arrive in cinemas in November. The film sees Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, reclaim her identity from the tyrannical Kree and take revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.”

During a recent interview with The Playlist, the “Ms. Marvel” directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were asked about a second season of “Ms Marvel”, to why they replied:

“No, we’re waiting for ‘The Marvels,’ so that will decide what the next step will be. So we’re very much looking forward to that. I can’t wait to see it, man. It’s great to see the trailers and to see the whole family back there and Iman Vellani doing great work, so looking forward to that.”

Originally, “The Marvels” was going to be released in cinemas last year, but it has suffered from multiple delays. Plus, with the writers/actors strikes and a general slowdown in how many Marvel projects are being released, so we’ve had to wait a lot longer than originally planned to see Ms Marvel next.

“Captain Marvel” was a huge hit when it arrived in cinemas in 2019, pulling in over a billion dollars, and hopefully, the new film will also be a big box office success.  However, because “Captain Marvel” was released between “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, it did get a huge boost as Marvel fans were awaiting the grand finale to the first three phases.  And “Captain Marvel” and “Ms Marvel” have unfortunately suffered from negative online hate, which might impact on “The Marvels” box office success.  Personally, I really enjoyed “Ms Marvel” and can’t wait to see her back in action, so I would love to see a second season, but it looks like a lot is riding on “The Marvels”.

While we wait for “The Marvels” to hit cinemas in November, you can watch the entire first season of “Ms Marvel” on Disney+ now.
