During last year’s Studio Showcase Panel at the D23 Expo, Pixar’s Pete Docter and Amy Poehler, who played Joy in “Inside Out”, announced that “Inside Out 2″ was in development at Pixar.

The all-new adventure inside the head of now-teenager Riley—who may or may not be feeling all kinds of new Emotions.

The new film is being directed by Kelsey Mann, and it is being produced by Mark Nielsen, and written by Meg LeFauve.

In the original film, “Inside Out”, growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her Emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler); Fear (Bill Hader); Anger (Lewis Black); Disgust (Mindy Kaling); and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The Emotions live in Headquarters, the control centre inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important Emotion, tries to keep things positive, the Emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Unfortunately, many of the original cast won’t be returning, as Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling, who played Fear and Disgust in the original film, declined a return to their roles, due to pay discrepancies.  Mindy Kaling has confirmed in an interview with The Wrap, while promoting the new HBO Max series, “Velma”, that she won’t be returning for the sequel.

“I had a great time working on ‘Inside Out’ and am sure ‘Inside Out 2’ will be great. But I’m not working on it,”

However, the actress has stressed that while is not part of the movie “right now”, this could change depending on the film’s story or if they reach an agreement on compensation.

“Inside Out 2” is slated for release in cinemas on Friday, 14th June 2024, and in the meantime, you can watch “Inside Out” on Disney+ now.
