Disney held a special screening at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre of the first three episodes of the new animated series from Marvel Animation, which is a revival of the classic 1990s series, “X-Men”.

The new series revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before and forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

Following the event, select members of the press have been sharing their first reactions to “X-Men ’97”, and here are some of those initial impressions:

Tessa Smith from Mama’s Geeky thought the series was incredible:

“To me, my X-Men! To have this series back has overwhelmed me with emotion. I’ve seen the first 3 episodes & each one brought me to tears. So many characters & storylines done PERFECTLY! I love having this team back. For those nervous, don’t be… this show is incredible.”

Around The Geek was also transported back to their childhood with the new series:

Watched the first 3 episodes of X-Men 97 and feel like I traveled back to my childhood self eating cereal in front of the tv on a Saturday morning and yet at the same time feels like it grew up along with me. The style and action absolutely amazing.

Paul from Heavy Spoilers thought the show was also great:

Gonna be honest, I was worried about #Xmen97 Happy to say that the first 3 episodes are great though. The second that theme tune starts up and the intro plays you can tell they put their all into it. Really good return to form that I think fans are gonna love.

The Reel Rejects’ Greg Alba also thought the show was fantastic:

After rewatching the original ‘xmen’ animated series and now the first couple episodes of ‘X-Men ’97’ – I can honestly say the series is fantastic! It’s how you remember, preserving the characters & themes, yet evolved with a more cinematic touch and beautiful action scenes.”

While POC Culture, thought the show was surprisingly sexy!?

I got to see 3 episodes of X-MEN ‘97 & it is nostalgia handled perfectly! The action & use of powers are awesome & creative, it’s pleasantly hilarious & surprisingly…sexy??? This is a show for both OG & new fans! The #XMen are BACK!

And Daniel from the Movie Podcast also recommended the show for new and old fans:

#XMen97 is a FRESH and X-TRAORDINARY revival of one of the most iconic animated series ever. I watched 3 episodes, all with ASTONISHING animation, terrific team dynamics, and banger soundtrack. This is the DEFINITIVE incarnation of the X-Men and a must watch for fans old and new.

Aaron Perine from Comic Book called the show “astounding:”

“‘X-Men 97’ is absolutely ASTOUNDING. I’m floored by how much love this show has for the entire idea of the Xmen! Could not be happier!”

So far, the reaction from critics is overwhelmingly positive, and hopefully, fans agree when the show is released on Disney+ next week.

The first two episodes of “X-Men ’97” are coming out on Disney+ on Wednesday 20th March 2024, with a new episode released weekly.
