Last week, Disney+ released the first episode of the Marvel Studios’ original series, “Secret Invasion”, which is set in the present-day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.

Samba TV has revealed some new data about the premiere episode, which was watched by 994,000 households in the United States over the first five days. According to this data, it is slightly ahead of the “Ms Marvel” premiere, which was watched by 775K US households.

In comparison, here’s a look at the other data from Samba TV based on the first episode over the first five days in the US:

  • Loki – 2.5M US households
  • Moon Knight – 1.8M US households
  • The Falcon And The Winter Soldier – 1.8M US households
  • WandaVision – 1.6M US households
  • Hawkeye – 1.5M US households
  • Ms Marvel – 775K US households
  • She-Hulk – 1.5M US households (Over 4 days)

Internationally, this number will obviously be much higher, but these stats give us a good indication of how viewership has changed in the US over the past few years.   Recently, there has been lots of talk about superhero fatigue and how the overall interest in “Secret Invasion” was much lower than in previous Marvel shows, resulting in Disney changing its release schedule for its upcoming films and shows, to spread them out.  It is worth noting that audience numbers are generally drastically lower in 2023 than during the pandemic years, when more people were watching Disney+ in general, since most of us couldn’t leave the house!

Unfortunately, Disney doesn’t release actual streaming numbers for its shows, unless it’s been a huge hit and broken some records that they want to use to promote the show (like today’s announcement about the success of the second season of “The Bear”).

Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

Ali Selim directs the series and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Ali Selim, Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Kyle Bradstreet is also the head writer, and Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein serve as co-executive producers.

The first episode of “Secret Invasion” is available to stream now on Disney+, and new episodes are being released every Wednesday.
