Last week, Disney released the latest Marvel Studios film, “Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol 3” on Disney+ around the world.

In Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

According to the latest data from Samba TV, the film had a successful launch on Disney+, with over 1.3 million US households watching the film over the first five days. It’s important to note, that this data doesn’t come specifically from Disney and only includes US households, so the actual number of viewers globally will be significantly higher.

In comparison, the film was released on digital platforms to purchase and rent in the US in July and was watched by an estimated 482,000 US households. With most digital purchases/rentals, this will have brought in just under 10 million dollars in the US alone (though with taxes and the digital stores taking a cut, Disney won’t get all of that money_. This is one major reason why Disney has returned to releasing films digitally before a Disney+ release, to increase a movie’s profitability.

Earlier this year, “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” was released on Disney+ and was watched by 966,000 US households over its first days on the streaming platform. However, it is still down on the 2.1 million US households watching “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on Disney+ in January and 2.6 million US households watching “Avatar: The Way Of Water” on Disney+ and Max in June.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova. James Gunn is the director and also wrote the screenplay. Kevin Feige produces with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Sara Smith, and Simon Hatt serving as executive producers.
