With the actor’s strike continuing with no end in sight, following the studios walking away from talks with the SAG-AFTRA following a demand by the actors’ union for 2% of streaming services revenue, many projects are now being rescheduled due to many reasons, including the lack of actors to promote a new film or show, and more importantly, due to the inability to film new movies and shows.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Disney had delayed the 20th Century Studios film, “The Bikeriders”, from this December to a later date and according to Deadline, the Marvel Studios film, “Deadpool 3” is also going to be delayed from its May 3rd 2024 slot to an unannounced date.

While about half of “Deadpool 3” was filmed in the United Kingdom before the actor’s strike started in July, with so much left to film, plus with reshoots and post-production being required, it just wouldn’t be able to make its scheduled release date.

The film will see Ryan Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth, along with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. Also starring in the film will be “The Crown‘s” Emma Corrin and “Succession‘s” Matthew Macfadyen, along with the returning Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic.

Marvel Studios was able to finish filming on “Captain America: Brave New World” before the actor’s strike started, and that’s currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 26th 2023.   It’s possible that the film could be ready to be released early in the “Deadpool 3” slot. However, Disney could also move around some other films like “Snow White” or “The Lion King” sequel, since Marvel may want to do reshoots for “Captain America: Brave New World” and moving a film release forward a few months would impact on the post-production such as visual effects.  With Disney putting Marvel under more pressure to perform better at the box office and to increase its quality, rushing a film out early, would go against that trend.

Hopefully, the actor’s strike will be resolved soon, so filming can resume on “Deadpool 3”, but the longer it goes on, the much more likely that the release date is pushed back even further, which will likely have a knock-on impact on the rest of the Marvel Studios schedule.

While we wait for the new film, the first two “Deadpool” films and “Logan” are available to stream now on Disney+.
