Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” Becomes Biggest Premiere On Disney+ This Year
Last week, Disney released the first two episodes of Marvel’s latest original series, “Daredevil: Born Again” on Disney+ around the world and it looks like its been a big hit for the streaming service.
Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again” is a continuation of the former Netflix Original show and sees Charlie Cox return as Matt Murdock. A blind lawyer with heightened abilities fights for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
Disney has revealed that the first two episodes pulled in 7.5 million views globally within its first five days of being available on Disney+. Disney defines a view as total stream time divided by runtime.
This makes “Daredevil: Born Again” the most watched premiere on Disney+ so far this year, ahead of “Win Or Lose”, “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” and “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”.
The series also stars Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, with Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal. Dario Scardapane is the showrunner. Episodes are directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd; and executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Chris Gary, Dario Scardapane, Chris Ord & Matt Corman, and Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is the latest hit for Disney, following the recent premiere of “Paradise” pulled in 7 million views globally within the first five days on Hulu and Disney+. The last Marvel show, “Agatha All Along”, pulled in 9.3 million views on Disney+ in its first seven days of streaming, though this continues to highlight some of the issues of Disney’s reporting since all the data parameters aren’t exactly the same.
Roger’s Take: There’s been a lot of pressure on “Daredevil: Born Again” to perform well for Disney+. Getting the biggest viewership of any premiere on Disney+ so far this year is a great start and comparable to Disney’s other big hit of the year, “Paradise.” Hopefully, as more people tune in for each new episode, that viewership will continue to improve.
The first two episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again” are available to stream on Disney+ now and a new episode will be released each week on Tuesday’s at 6pm PT.
