Marvel Reportedly Developing Second Season Of “Hawkeye
The Marvel Studios show, “Hawkeye” was one of the original series to be released on Disney+ and it was set in post-blip New York City where former Avenger Clint Barton aka Hawkeye has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. But when a threat from his past shows up, Hawkeye reluctantly teams up with Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old skilled archer and his biggest fan, to unravel a criminal conspiracy.
The series starred Jeremy Renner, who had previously starred as Hawkeye in the previous “Avenger” movies and introduced Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. “Hawkeye” also featured the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin and introduced Alaqua Cox as Echo.
Since that show debuted in late 2021, we’ve seen Kate Bishop make a cameo appearance in “The Marvels”, likely leading to her returning for a future “Young Avengers”/”Champions” project, but according to new report from industry scooper Daniel Richtman , a second season of “Hawkeye” is in development.
The second season would apparently be inspired by the classic 20th Century Studios action movie, “Die Hard”, where Clint and Kate will be trapped in one location and have to fend off assassins being sent by a new villain, Trickshot, who is Clint’s brother, Barney Barton. Much like the first season, the second season would also be set during Christmas time.
It’s important to note that Marvel hasn’t announced a second season of “Hawkeye” is happening, but Marvel has shifted its strategy to create shows with multiple seasons. Only recently, Marvel’s head of Television and Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, teased a second season of “Hawkeye”:
“Hawkeye is another one that feels like you can make a second season of that show because it’s Christmas, because it’s Clint and Kate. You can kind of revisit it whenever, and we’re looking for opportunities to do that. But as we develop things for the future, I think they’re going to be designed to be multiple seasons, have more of a pattern, and be able to be released annually.”
There is also a very good reason why we’ve not seen Hawkeye on our screens for a while, as Jeremy Renner was involved in a snowplough accident that almost killed him, which required him to do lots of reablitiation but he has since returned to acting with his hit Paramount+ series, “Mayor of Kingstown“.
Should the second series get the go-ahead, it might be a few years until we see it arrive on Disney+ since Marvel has drastically reduced how many projects it releases each year.
Roger’s Take: I think a second season of “Hawkeye” makes a lot of sense for Disney+, especially as they are street-level heroes without any superpowers, which means it’s cheaper for Disney to make due to less CGI and they have a more human element that will fit better to a series. Plus Hawkeye is one of the original Avengers, so audiences are going to be much more interested in it.
The first season of “Hawkeye” is available to stream on Disney+ now.
