Production on the Marvel Studios Disney+ series, “Wonder Man”, has been hit by a tragedy today, as Deadline has reported that a male member of the crew has died while working on the set.  Filming for “Wonder Man” was not occurring at the time of the accident, and the production was halted for the day.

The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed and identified the victim as Juan Carlos Osorio, 41, of Temple City, who was a rigger who fell from a catwalk at Radford Studios in Studio City.

A Marvel spokesperson said in a statement:

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”

IATSE president Matthew D. Loeb has also issued a statement:

“Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues.  Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. If you feel unsafe on set for any reason, members can call the IATSE Safety Hotline at 844-422-9273 or use our safety info app.”

The series originally started filming last summer but was hit by delays due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes, but it recently resumed after the holidays.

This upcoming Dinsey+ series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man, a.k .a. Simons Williams.  Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced any details on the upcoming Disney+ series yet.

While the series will likely change the origin of the character, in the comic book series, Simons is a wealthy industrialist, competing with Tony Stark’s Stark Industries.  Simons gained his superhuman powers due to chemical and radiation treatments with “ionic” energy by Baron Zemo, giving him superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. Initially, the character is a villain and eventually becomes a hero.
