Disney is currently getting ready to film a brand new live-action remake of its classic animated film, “Lilo & Stitch”, which is set to be released exclusively on Disney+.

In the original film, which was released in 2002 and told the story of Stitch, a runaway genetic experiment from a faraway planet, who crash lands on Earth and as he wreaks havoc on the Hawaiian Islands, he becomes the mischievous adopted alien “puppy” of an independent little girl named Lilo, and together they learn about loyalty, friendship and ‘ohana, the Hawaiian tradition of the family.

Knight Edge Media has reported that newcomer Maia Kealoha is going to be starring in the new live-action film as the title character, Lilo.

The new live-action version is going to be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who has previously directed the Oscar-nominated film, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On”.  The film will also star Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover).

The script has been written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, who is working on a previous draft by Mike Van Waes.

“Lilo & Stitch” will be the latest live-action version of a classic animated film, following on from the release of Disney+ Original films “Pinocchio” and “Lady & Tramp”.  Disney has also had huge success with live-action versions of “The Lion King”, “101 Dalmatians”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Jungle Book”, “Aladdin”, “Dumbo”, and “Mulan”.

No release date has yet been announced for “Lilo & Stitch”, but in the meantime, you can watch the original animated film on Disney+ now.
