Back at the Investors Day in 2020, Disney announced it was creating a brand new Star Wars series for Disney+ called “Lando”, which would see everyone’s favourite scoundrel Lando Calrissian return in a brand-new event series for Disney+.   It was revealed at the time that Justin Simien, the creator of the critically-acclaimed “Dear White People”, was writing the story for the show.

It’s been almost three years since that initial announcement, and since then, we’ve only had a few updates including from Kathleen Kennedy at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, who said Donald Glover has been busy on other projects and during an interview with GQ , Donald Glover said that he would love to play Lando again, but also added:

“I’m not interested in doing anything that’s just gonna be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy.”

During a recent interview with Justin Simien during the “Haunted Mansion” premiere event at Disneyland, Justin Simien was asked by The Direct about the upcoming “Lando” Disney+ series.

“I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show. It feels like everybody loves it. And, you know, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago. So I don’t know, I have no idea what’s going on with it.

Back at the Disney Investor Day in 2020, in addition to “Lando”, there were several other Star Wars projects announced that we’ve not yet seen come to light, including “Rogue Squadron”, “Rangers Of The New Republic” and “A Droid Story”.  While Lucasfilm may have simply put the project on the back burner for a while, especially as Disney is looking to slow down the amount of Star Wars content heading to our screens, it’s also likely the project has been quietly cancelled, especially if the executive producer, writer and lead star are all saying nothing is actually happening on the project.  But maybe one day, this project will eventually come to our screens.
