Josh Brolin To Star In 20th Century Studios “Whalefall”
Disney’s 20th Century Studios is developing an adaptation of the Daniel Kraus novel “Whalefall”, which tells the story of a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.
The upcoming film is going to be directed by Brian Duffield, who has been working on the script with Daniel Kraus. Brian has previously worked on the hit Hulu/Disney+ movie, “No One Will Save You”.
Deadline is reporting that Josh Brolin is in negotiations to star in the film, though no details on what character he would be playing have been revealed. Josh has previously starred as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as Cable in “Deadpool 2”. He has also starred in “Dune” and “The Goonies”.
Also starring in the film will be Austin Abrams, who will be playing the lead role in the movie. Austin has previously starred in Apple TV+’s “Wolfs”, HBO’s hit series, “Euphoria” and Netflix’s “Do Revenge”.
20th Century Studios secured the distribution rights to the film last year in a competitive auction, and auditions have been taking place over the past few weeks.
Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum are producing “Whalefall”, along with Brian Duffield.
Richard Abate and Will Rowbotham of 3 Arts Entertainment will exec produce with J.R. Young overseeing for the studio.
No release date for the film has been revealed; it’s likely it will be released in cinemas first, before heading straight to Disney+ and Hulu.
