20th Century Studios is working on a brand new film with James L Brook called “Ella McCay”, which will follow an idealistic young politician who juggles familial issues and a challenging work life while preparing to take over the job of her mentor, the state’s longtime incumbent governor.
According to Deadline, negotiations are currently underway to get Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edibiri, Albert Brooks, Kumail Nanjiani and Spike Fearn to star in the film.
James L. Brooks has previously directed “Spanglish”, “As Good as It Gets” and also worked on “The Simpsons Movie”. The last film he directed was “How Do You Know“, which was thirteen years ago.
Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, said in a statement:
“As one of the most empathetic dramatists of our time, James Brooks has set the bar across film and television for decades. From Broadcast News to The Simpsons, Jim is also a foundational element in the bedrock of 20th and we couldn’t be more proud to support him in his long awaited return to the director’s chair.”
The film will be produced by James L.Brook, along with his producing partners Julie Ansell, and Richard Sakai, who will produce the film through their Gracie Films banner. Seth Meier will be an executive producer on the film, with EVP Scott Aversano overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios.
No release details have been announced for when “Ella McCay” will be released.
