Last week, Disney added the latest Marvel Studios film, “Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol 3” onto Disney+ around the world. The film sees the beloved band of misfits settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova. James Gunn is the director and also wrote the screenplay. Kevin Feige produces with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Sara Smith, and Simon Hatt serving as executive producers.

As with other Marvel Studios film releases on Disney+, the film is available in two formats, IMAX Enhanced and widescreen.

IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio is 1:90:1, which offers up to 26% more picture for select sequences – meaning more of the action is visible on screen, just as the filmmakers intended. In the future, the collaboration will deliver even more enhanced audio and visual technology to Disney+, including immersive IMAX signature sound by DTS.

The film’s director, James Gunn, took to social media over the weekend to share his opinion on how viewers should watch the film on Disney+.

“The ‘widescreen’ version is mixed aspect ratio and would be my preferred way to watch in your home.”

He went on to explain further:

“Lots of directors shoot in 2.35. Those sections in ‘Vol. 3’ were composed for 1.90 and 2.35 respectively, and the changes come at specific points in the storytelling, so it’s my preferred way of watching the film on TV. But it’s fun to watch the different versions. I liked the 3D version too!”

He also answered a fan’s comment about the IMAX version being cropped.

Yeah the IMAX version isn’t cropped. It’s all new stuff top and bottom.

Whichever way you choose to watch “Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol 3”, you’ll find it available to stream now on Disney+.
