While Disney has already renewed “Abbott Elementary,” “9-1-1,” “The Rookie,” and “Grey’s Anatomy” for their next season, one show that remains on the verge is “The Conners,” which is currently in its sixth season and being released weekly on ABC. Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.

The series is a spin-off of the classic comedy, “Roseanne”, and after three decades, audiences have followed along with The Conners as they navigate the daily struggles of life in Lanford. Dan, Jackie, Darlene and Becky grapple with parenthood, marriage, financial pressures and ageing in working-class America. Through it all—the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns—with love, humour and perseverance, the family prevails.

Recently, Deadline revealed that the show continues to be in limbo, with talks still underway between ABC and  Tom Werner’s Werner Entertainment, which produces it.

The main cast hasn’t yet been approached, as they’ve been on one-year deals since the start, though usually, negotiations for a new contract would have been done by now before a renewal is announced.

It’s expected that “The Conners” will be picked up for a seventh and final season. However, the creators have already thought ahead. In case the show doesn’t get renewed, a tag scene has been filmed to wrap up the show.  Highlighting that the chances of the show coming to a close are very high.

Last year, it was revealed that Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene Conner in the show and is also an executive producer, had requested that the team have enough lead time so they could build the show to a proper ending.

With Disney cutting back on how much general entertainment content it creates for its linear channels and streaming services, with “The Conners” just being a licensed show, it’s not a huge surprise that this show could be on the chopping block, especially as Disney is developing other shows for the next season.

The latest season of “The Conners” is available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.  Recently, Netflix and The CW also have licensed rights to the show.
