Hulu To Share Upcoming Disney+ Original “Goosebumps” Series
One of the many shows set to arrive on Disney+ later this year is a brand-new take on R.L. Stine’s “Goosebumps” books, which follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together – thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other – in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.
“Goosebumps” is one of the best-selling book series of all time and has sold over 400 million copies of the book series, which spans 200 different books. The new series will star Justin Long, Ana Yi Puig, Miles McKenna, Rachael Harris, Will Price, Zack Morris and Isa Briones.
The new show has been created by Sony Television Pictures, and according to Deadline, the show maybe released on both Disney+ and Hulu. Disney hasn’t officially announced this movie, but there are many good reasons why Disney might do this.
Later this year, Hulu content will be available within Disney+ in the United States, and lots of other originals have been shared between the two platforms, as we see the lines blur between the two streaming services, before an eventual merger. Sharing “Goosebumps” between both Hulu and Disney+ could increase the potential viewership of the show. Plus, by sharing it, possibly also with a linear channel, they can spread out the costs among different divisions and make more money from advertising.
This new series has been in development since April 2020 and has a 10-episode order for Disney+. It has been written by Nick Stoller and Rob Letterman, who are also executive producers on the show. Rob Letterman has directed the first episode. He has previously directed the 2015 “Goosebumps” film, which was also produced by Neal H. Moritz, who is also an executive producer on the series, along with Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Conor Welch of Stoller Global Solutions, and Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman of Scholastic Entertainment are also executive producing the show.
No release details for the upcoming “Goosebumps” show have been revealed, but a small photo was shown off at a stand for Disney+ at the San Diego Comic-Con, so we will likely see the show released in time for Halloween.
