Hulu Orders “Mid-Century Modern” To A Series
20th Television is developing a brand new multi-camera comedy pilot called “Mid-Century Modern”, which has been given a series order by Hulu.
The series follows three best friends — gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one, Bunny Schneiderman, lives with his mother, Sybil. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done.
This new comedy will star Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham and Linda Lavin. It has been created by “Will & Grace” creators, David Kohan & Max Mutchnick, along with Ryan Murphy.
“Mid-Century Modern” has been turned around pretty quickly, as the pilot was only officially greenlighted a couple of months ago, and the pilot was taped in front of a live audience a month ago. The pilot was directed by James Burrows and written by David Kohan & Max Mutchnick, who are all executive producers along with Lane, Bomer and Murphy.
It’s uncommon for a quick decision to be made like this around a pilot, but the creative team and stars involved, plus according to Deadline, the project had a very strong word-of-mouth internally, resulted in the project speeding up after the table read.
No release details on the comedy series have been announced yet, as it’s still in the early stages, but it’s going to be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the US and likely as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally.
