Hulu No Longer Moving Forward With ‘Downforce’
Last year, it was revealed that Hulu had ordered a pilot of a new comedy called “Downforce”, which was going to star Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters) and Murray Bartlett (Welcome To Chippendales).
The show follows Victoria, the estranged daughter of a storied racing team’s owner, Sir Trevor, who is thrust back into the family business, leaving the pair to find common ground or risk destroying the team’s legacy.
Unfortunatenly, it’s been revealed by Deadline, that Hulu has decided not to move on with the project after the pilot.
This new comedy was written by Alec Berg and Adam Countee. Alec also directed the pilot and they both executive produced the show with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey for Temple Hill, with Daniel Ricciardo and Amy Solomo from Lionsgate.
Also starring in the pilot was Harry Delano (Freud’s Last Session), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Amar Chadha-Patel (The Decameron) and Arturo Del Puerto (For All Mankind).
The pilot had been created by ABC Signature Studios, which was merged into 20th Television late last year.
Roger’s Take: Ultimately, pilots are made to enable studios and creatives to make a test episode, to see if the show works and to allow tweaks such as making cast or creative changes to improve it. All while giving studios an option to only need to invest so much money up front. There’s countless other pilots that have never seen the light of day and that’s probably a good thing. If this pilot was great, it would have likely been picked up for a full season.
