Following the news that Disney had cancelled the Hulu/Star Original series, “How I Met Your Father” after two seasons, the show’s executive producer, Craig Thomas, took to social media to share his initial reaction, saying:

Thanks to the wonderful cast and crew who worked so hard on #HIMYF, and to all who checked it out, sometimes this is how it goes in this crazy business…

The show is set in the near future, Sophie is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the present, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

The series stars Hilary Duff, Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma as well as recurring stars, Kim Cattrall, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes and Josh Peck

“How I Met Your Father” was created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. Executive producers include Aptaker, Berger, Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, Pamela Fryman, Adam Londy and Suzy Mamann Greenberg. Hilary Duff serves as a producer. “How I Met Your Father” is a production of 20th Television. The show was released as a Hulu Original in the United States and as a Star Original on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.

The cancellation is the latest in a long line of shows that Disney has cancelled lately, as part of a cost-cutting exercise to reduce the amount of general entertainment content it creates for its streaming services.  Sadly, the show was never able to pull in enough viewers, especially compared to the original show, for Disney to keep the project moving forward.

With the writers and actors still on strike, we are unlikely to hear any reactions of the cancellation from the cast or other creators of the show until the strikes are over.  Unfortunately, we are probably never going to know, how she met his father!

Both seasons of “How I Met Your Father”, along with all seasons of the original series, “How I Met Your Mother” are available to stream now on Hulu in the United States, on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.
